1996年的一天，导演平野胜之与女优兼恋人林由美香相约骑车单车暴走北国，一路上他们经历了无数的艰辛，也收获了诸多的快乐与人生感悟。在此之后，平野将这段旅程的影像记录编纂成名为《由美香》的纪录片，但是二人的恋情也似乎走到了尽头，此后不久他们不欢而散。2005年，平野与由美 香再次相见，并相约进行一段访谈。可就在由美香的生日刚刚过去不久，这个生活经历极不平凡的女子便在35岁的灿烂时刻香消玉殒。由美香的离开令她的母亲、平野以及好友们悲痛不已，平野更长达五年不曾碰触摄像机，似乎真正应了由美香那句;监督失格的谶语 本片获2011年电影旬报最佳影片第11名，第21届日本电影专业大奖 ;年度十佳片榜首及;个人奖最佳影片。
